Application for grant

A parent that is the legal guardian and provider of a chronically ill child can apply for a grant from Styrktarsjóður Umhyggu fund, if financial problems are a direct cause of the child's illness. The parent has to be a member of Umhyggja or some of Umhyggja's affiliated organizations. The grant amount in 2025 is ISK 1.000.000.

  • For every chronically ill child, an application can be made two times until the child is 18 years old. However, 12 months must pass  between applications. In families where there are more than one chronically ill child, only one grant is payed in every 12 month period.
  • Please be aware that applications are not taken into consideration without a medical certificate dated within a year from the application date. The medical certificate must include information about how the illness/handicap of the child impacts its daily life.
  • Please be aware that diminished salary due to maternity/paternity leave does not meet the funds prerequisites for a grant.

It can take up to 6 weeks for the application to be processed after all documents have been turned in.The certificate can be submitted via the application form on the website, or by sending it to Umhyggja's office.

I approve that Umhyggja is allowed to process personal data regarding me and my child in accordance with article nr.10 of the Act of Data Protection and Processing of Personal Data nr.90/2018 acc. art. 6-8 of EU regulation nr.2016/679.
